BMW has debuted their latest innovation, the GINA Light Visionary Model. The dynamic model enables a car's structure to shape and change and reflects an all new way of thinking and approach to the automotive world. The GINA acronym is for Geometry in N Adaptations. The model is based on a Z8 Roadster, but the concept is very different. Gone is the shiny metallic surface, the door handles and lights, and instead you have a silver flexible fabric covering the entire car. The GINA Light Visionary Model's concept of a skin in a non fixed/ non metal form offers numerous benefits including less energy intensive production. Definitely an interesting concept to see make its way into the general marketplace.
PUMA GLOWRIDER
Boston designer Jens Martin Skibsted set out to combine traditional BMX looks with multifunctional urban utility. To achieve this he stuck with the heavy duty look but added high-tech utility such as the unique folding/locking mechanism and slick 24-inch tires. Resulting in something completely different from the norm but with even more functionality. Puma's glow in the dark colorway and reflective branding has not only given this bike an amazing look at night but has boosted night time riding by adding a greater level of visibility to the rider.
The most media-recognized bike ever made, the Boston includes an integrated lock that’s a structural part of the frame (if a thief cuts the wire, the bike’s unrideable…but repairable), and quickly folds to fit wherever you need to go. Down the Road
It's official now. The 6.0L V-12 TDI that was in the Q7 TDI concept at
last year's Detroit Show has now been installed in the R8 sports car.
That essentially makes the R8 the road-going equivalent of the two-time
Le Mans winning R10 race car. The 60 degree V-12 has the same
displacement but is a different engine from the 5.5L unit in the race
cars although it does share technology with it. The road-going edition
develops 500hp and 738lb-ft of torque pushing it 100km/h 4.2seconds.
The
compact design of the engine allows the V-12 to be only 6.5 inches
longer than the 4.2L V-8 TDI. The V-12 block is made from the same grey
cast iron material as the existing production V-6 and V-8 TDI engines
from Audi. Part of the compact design is attributable to the chain
drive for the cam-shafts being mounted at the rear end of the block. A
pair of dual piston pumps supply diesel fuel to the common rails at
2,000 PSI. The twin turbochargers generate up to 2.6 Bar of boost
pressure. This beast of an engine is already compliant with the Euro VI
emissions rules that go into effect in 2014 thanks to the use of
particulate filters and a urea injection system. Those Euro VI rules
should be equivalent with 2010 Tier 2 Bin 5 rules in the US.

Legendary Bikes Hit the Auction Block Text by Arthur Coldwells
Renowned auction house Bonhams & Butterfields will host an auction of rare and historic motorcycles at the Legend of the Motorcycle Concours d’Elegance on May 3 at Ritz-Carlton in Half Moon Bay, which is south of San Francisco. Among the legendary bikes on the block is the famous 1903 Rex Single once owned by Harold Williamson, which won the historic 875-mile Land’s End to John o’Groats Run in Great Britain more than 100 years ago.
Last year’s inaugural Bonhams’ auction garnered nearly $1 million in sales―a remarkable sum for a first-time motorcycle sale. “Last year’s results confirmed the obvious, that is there’s a strong demand for an auction of important collector motorcycles and memorabilia at the world’s foremost motorcycle event,” says Mark Osborne, head of Bonhams & Butterfields’ Motoring department. “It also demonstrates the continuing interest and upswing in the market for historic bikes.” (www.LegendoftheMotorcycle.com)

The
Corum Romulus, named for the mythical founder of Rome, was itself the
first watch to kick off a trend still alive in watchmaking. About fifty
years ago, Corum was the first watch company to put hour numerals on
the bezel of a watch, the Romulus. In the Romulus Dual Time, the brand
has perfected the bezel by using fifty-two separate stamping
operations. The 41mm 18 gold watch is powered by a Frédéric Piquet
movement and features a guilloche dial. Its slim, curved profile makes
it easy to wear even in shirtsleeves. Our favorite shown here is the
Rose gold, on a crocodile strap (17,000). Other favorites are the Corum
Skylight Skeleton Watch, which features a 42mm case, black dial, black
crocodile strap and a hand-wound movement. The Burberry Rose Plated is
more reasonable but the Zenith and Hysek are unique.
